Vital repairs undertaken
It seems that the Formby Memorial in Warrington Cemetery is suffering once again from old-age, wear and tear and pollution. The monument, being white marble, is hardly user friendly but is a magnificent reminder of the power, wealth and fame that James Booth and later his son, our George enjoyed. GFS member Andy Bibby resides in Warrington and has for some years, kept a close eye on the state of this priceless reminder of the two George Formbys. It seems that Andy’s watchfulness has paid off in that he has met a good Samaritan in the shape of stonemason Dave Wallace who has recently done some repairs. Andy states, “George Formby’s grave is falling foul to the elements again. However, I located local stonemason Dave Wallace.  There was a lead number ‘1’ missing off Eliza’s passing date. 198x (1981). Dave kindly replaced the missing lead number 1 and addressed anything else amiss for free! Here on the photos is Dave busy working on another job and the before and after photos on the Formby monument. Dave’s kind gesture to the memory of our George and his family, means that his work has a lifetime guarantee.” I feel sure that every member who has viewed the monument will be grateful to both Dave and Andy for their attention and loving care of this iconic headstonev. Andy Bibby is another fine example of someone who is not a committee member but is committed to making sure that his home-town famous monument continues to look its best for Formby fans the world over to come and view. He was also on the case in 2016/17 when he reported to the GFS committee that repairs of a serious nature needed to be done. These were carried out and paid for by The GFS with many donations being received from members and friends of The Society.

BEFORE AND AFTER - THE DATE OF ELIZA’S PASSING IS RESTORED
We should all in the Society, be grateful to Andy. Who else gives us updates on the state of the monument?
