PLATINUM JUBILEE concert
June Convention 2022
THE GEORGE FORMBY SOCIETY PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
Summer Convention – June 25th & 26th 2022.
In June 2022, her majesty Queen Elizabeth II, arguably George Formby’s most
recognisable admirer, will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee. With events set to
take place nationwide, the George Formby Society intends to commemorate
this special occasion at its Summer Convention.
A FORMBY ROYAL COMMAND PERFORMANCE
Our Saturday evening concert will showcase the best of Formby’s music
intertwined with information about the Royal Family’s connection with Wigan’s
most famous son, George Formby.
BLACK TIE THEME
In reminiscence of our 2018 Royal Albert Hall performance, we will celebrate
the evening in style with a black-tie theme. We ask that anyone who wishes to
perform on Saturday evening must support the dress code, but we hope that
everyone attending will also join the effort.
AN OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE
To open our special concert, in place of our usual thrash, everyone with a
ukulele will be welcome to join the stage and sing ‘When I’m Cleaning
Windows’ in its entirety. Not only is this significant song a longstanding favourite
of the Royal Family, but it is also the very same song the George Formby
Society sang for the Queen at her 92nd birthday celebrations.
RAFFLE AND AUCTION
This unique event will run alongside our usual Saturday evening schedule with
a raffle and auction during the interval.
Let’s make it an evening to remember! We look forward to seeing you.
CONCERT ORGANISERS
The Saturday evening concert will be organised and presented by Lewis Clifton
and Stuart Lowther
DRESS CODE UPDATE
A reminder of the theme we have in place for our SATURDAY EVENING concert.
GENTS
Black tie dress code. We understand not everyone will own a full evening suit, so a white shirt, black/dark trousers, and bow tie
is perfectly fine too.
LADIES
The lady members of the society always make a tremendous effort during our Blackpool weekends, but we know they too will
also push the boat out for this special evening. We encourage ladies to wear a dress suitable for the occasion, or why not sport
something patriotic in red, white, and blue?
FLAGS
It’s the enthusiasm of the membership that makes a concert memorable, so please, if you have any flags, bring them along to
wave during the performances!
Although performers on stage are expected to support the dress code, we hope that everyone will join the celebrations and
make this an evening to remember!
