When this interview was first completed, I showed it to my old friend Dennis Taylor to ensure everything looked as it should. I remember Dennis' words quite clearly, "Peter", he said, "It's brilliant, there is only one thing wrong with it, I'm not in it!" I came back with the suggestion that we will do another and you can interview John. That is when we decided that it would be nice to go back to 1961 and visit the room where it all started. I have to say that both interviews were unscripted. In the first one that Gerry did, John had prepared a few old Vellum magazines just in case. In the second interview with Dennis, they just go on with it, confirming the fact that real Formby fans can always chat all day long about their hero! Both films were shot in 2010 so that they could be ready for the 2011 fiftieth anniversary of the GFS. One other person who viewed both productions and gave them a very enthusiastic thumbs up was the master himself, none other than Daniel Wiles, producer of The South Bank Show and Frank Skinner In Search of George Formby. You can watch Dennis and John's production at the link and I present here, In Conversation - Gerry Mawdsley chats with John Walley.
