A NEW YEAR AND A NEW VENUE FOR
CASTLEFORD GFS!
Castleford has always been a good place for George Formby.
Eighteen years at The Shoulder of Mutton with the legendary
character “Tetley” Dave Parker and then in 2016 a nice re-birth
at The Flarepath Club led by Andy Poppleton. Now the group
have transferred just under one mile down the road to the
(appropriately named) George V WMC.
Please do not think though that The Flarepath was not a good
venue, we had some great nights there and the local people of
Castleford proved to be a great audience.
The George V is much more suitable to accommodate the
amount of people that support the branch. A large concert room
with a brilliant stage, a lovely bright bar area with various
friendly staff to serve you, good stage lighting for the concert, and a massive car park which can cater for everyone who drives. In short,
probably as a good a venue as any GFS branch could hope for!
The Castleford branch has always been well supported and
this evening was no different. Members travelled from
various places including Wigan, Nottingham, Durham and
all points of South and West Yorkshire and a good
representation from Castleford.
A great crowd with plenty of quality players to make the
evening go well. On top of the great entertainment was a
lavish supper, prepared by Jean who previously prepared
the suppers at the last venue. Jean's suppers are always
the best and this evening the same standard was
maintained.
There is no charge for the Castleford meetings but if you
take supper, a nominal charge is made for that although on
New Venue for Castleford
George V WMC is a winner!
this occasion the supper was paid for by popular member
Tom Stratford as he celebrates his 85th birthday in a few
days.
There was plenty of GFS stars on show this evening, but
the real star was the club itself.
Castleford GFS is here to stay!
