Some people are just a little bit special and Trevor Alder was one of those people. Trevor had a lust for life and was a kind and generous man. He was a staunch supporter of The GFS and he and his partner Bob were Blackpool regulars and also attended our Morecambe meetings and my North Yorkshire events. Trevor loved being at Blackpool and it was a joy to be on stage and look down to where he always sat with Bob because you knew there was going to be a beaming smile looking back up at you. A real boost for a nervous performer. He always contacted me before meetings to see if he could help out and he compered several concerts, often sporting a snazzy waistcoat or his bowler hat but always with that smile and contagious joy. He loved to entertain and was well known for his monologues but my favourite memory of Trev is his music hall inspired performance of The Marrow Song with Pat and Geoff Silcock. He and Bob supplied me with my wonderful gramophone and Trevor was especially pleased when I took it to Blackpool and we listened to one of George’s early 78rpm records.Trevor had heart surgery in January of this year but he suffered complications. He fought bravely for many weeks but sadly, Trevor passed away in France on 09 March 2017. Having spoken to Bob regularly I know that the love and support that he gave Trevor throughout this tragic period was unequivocal. I will miss Trevor’s enthusiasm and unswerving support for the Formby Society. I’ll miss his smile, his gramophone expertise, his generosity, his guaranteed laughter at my bad jokes and the big kiss he used to give me when we all met up again in Blackpool. I’ll miss Trevor and I know many others will too.Our thoughts are now with Bob at this sad time.Caroline Stewart13/03/2017
Trevor finally performs a George Formby song on the GFS convention stage. Trevor's gentle sense of humour and Stuart's brilliant playing make this clip one to savour.
