haydock park race day
Celebrating George’s early days in the saddle
Haydock Park Raceday 2014 There is nothing like the Sport of Kings to get people out and about, and the GFS Raceday at Haydock Park on Thursday, 7th August 2014 was just such a day. The weather was fine and all the ladies looked lovely (especially the GFS ladies!). Haydock Park Races are always well attended and the fact that George started his professional career as a jockey makes our presence there a very justifiable one. The Zip Goes A Million Handicap Stakes took place at 4:10 and the winner was Compton Park, ridden by David Allen and owned by Mr. Billy Parker. There was a double-page spread in the racing programme, written by Vellum editor, Tony Thornton which covered all George's racing career and made very interesting reading. The winning jockey and owner received trophies from GFS retiring archivist, Neil Forshaw and all in all, it was a very good day out. The Official Result 1st - Compton Park - 7/1 2nd - Artic Feeling 6/1 3rd - Duke Cosimo 100/30
