We are saddened to learn of the death of one of George Formby's sisters. Ella Becker died in California yesterday (12th January 1998). Ella was in her eighty eighth year having being born on July 2nd 1910. She appeared on the stage as did most of the other Formby brothers and sister, none of course having anything like the success of George. She left the UK in 1951 and went to live in Hemet, California with her husband Herb Becker. In September 1992 Ella returned to England to appear in "The South Bank Show" - a major television documentary on George Formby. Whilst in England Ella visited Warrington and attended a special Society concert where she was entertained by members of the Society. After the concert she said, "I must say it's been wonderful, I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I'll take a lot of nice memories back to the States with me -- so, It's turned out nice again. She was warmly received by the members on that very special day and will be sadly missed by them now.
