Castleford branch closes
Shoulder of Mutton pub closes
Sixteen years ago on 27th May 1998 the Castleford
branch of the George Formby Society was inaugurated.
Sadly as of 19th October 2014 this branch will cease to
exist.
Branch organiser and landlord of The Shoulder of
Mutton, "Tetley" Dave Parker passed away earlier this
year and since then his wife Margaret has kept the pub
open and the branch as well. Now Margaret is closing
the Shoulder and therefore the branch will cease to
function.
The Castleford branch is a massive loss to all who
supported it, probably one of the smallest branches - but
also definitely one of the best! The atmosphere at a
Castleford meeting was second to none and the pub
regulars and GFS members who attended it enjoyed
some lovely nights.
On behalf of all those members who supported the
branch, I would like to wish Margaret all the very best for
the future and to thank her for doing all that she could to
accommodate us after the sad loss of Dave.
